LO4: Pitch Presentation

LO4: Analysis of the current trends

World of war craft
World of Warcraft (WoW) massive multiplayer online role-playing game that was created in 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment. The game was released on November 23, 2004, on the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchis. World of war craft is a similar game to ours, this can be seen as competition as it is a highly popular role playing game which has thousands of players each day. World of war craft is rated 12+ by Pegi this is because it is an online multi-playing game which means that there will be players from all around the world which you can communicate. This game also include violence, however this is fantasy violence which mean it is not grafic which might be a problem to 12s and over. The reasons from this age rating is the same reasons for our, however our game is different in terms of lay outs, themes and story lines.is is similar to our game, however because our game contains fantasy violence we have rated it 12+. A reason this game was popular was because this is an online multiplaying game.

League Of  Legends
Another game that is similar to our game is League of Legends. League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. This game can be seen as our competition as the game

as the competition and say a bit about why they sell well.

LO4: Game visuals

This is the draft of the start menu, as we still need to add the logo and some more colour into the image.

LO4: Treatment

Fantasy Planet is nothing like what you've seen before. This time, YOU'RE IN CONTROL!
Following a storyline and being and told what to do. Not anymore.
You're welcomed into the game with a easy start menu which gives you the choice to create, options for the game control and forums to ask questions to other players and help you throughout the game.

Create mode
The create mode is simple and fun! You're first given the choice which planet you're character will spawn on when your character has adapted in order to live and survive on the planet. When you move between planets your character will adapt slightly in order to survive, however you can change the appearance of this when visiting the planet to what suits you best. You will then be given the option to choose what gender you want your character to be, there will be a different choice of the creature you want your character to be. You will be able to change your characters hair, eyes, skin tone and even change your character features. There will be a choice for clothing, however you will be given basic clothing and weapons as your character will start at level 1. Throughout the game you will level up with the points you are given as you progress through the missions.

Mulitverse
There is 4 planets throughout the game, Multiverse is the first planet that your character will spawn on and is the main planet out of the rest of them. Multiverse is based on the inside of a ship, that has many shops throughout the ship, sections that you can go and hang out with your friends and you also hav your own room that you can design and store your armour and clothing. Multiverse will give you the options to move between planets and change your characters appearance. The planet will also have a section for your character to go into a mission, as it's the first basic planet, the creatures will be a lower level, for easy defeat and easy points to get you started.
The design of the planet will be a ship, it will have 3 floors. The first floor will include your character moving between planets through little pods which your character has to wait for if there is a queue. It will give you the options to change your character to adapt or you can select quick journey and your character will be get sent ro a random planet. The second floor will include the shops for your character to go and purchase new armour, clothing, upgrades etc. The third floor will be the mission area for your character this is the place where your character can complete missions and also the section for your character to go into it's own bedroom, that you can upgrade and expand.
On each planet your character will change slightly in order to survive on the specific planet. Multiverse is the main planet and will allow your character to be whatever you want it to be (This depends on whether you have vistied the different planets to unlock certain clothing.)

Sandstorm
The sandstorm planet is different from the other planets as it is a sand themed planet. Each part of the planet will be made out of sand. Your character will change slightly as your character needs to be able to adapt to the planet to survive. The planet won't be as big as Mulitverse however, it will have all of the similar options. Sandstorm will still have the mission area which will include shops that will have more advanced armour, clothing and upgrades than Multiverse as it's a more advanced planet. This will also mean that the mission will include higher level monsters, that will provide more points and more money, however much it will be harder.
On Sandstorm your character will change slightly by having scales on the skin and your eyeballs to adapt to the harsh environment, you can still edit youself by choosing the colour of your eyes or scales. However, as your character levels up it will be able to change to an more advanced style.

Robania
Robania is a quite unique planet as everything is more technical and is all robot based. It's more difficult to travel around this planet than the rest of them as you need to remember codes to unlock certain doors to travel across the planet. The mission will include higher level robotic monsters, this will mean you will gain more points, money and also codes to unlock some secret gifts if you're lucky enough!
When you first come onto the planet, you will start in a small room that will be full of codes that you need to remember to unlock certain doors to travel around the planet. The planet will be the same as the rest as it will include shops, help centers and again a mission area.
On the planet Robania, your character will change by wearing some robotic suit which can be advanced by levelling up your character. Your character will wear something across the eyes in order to indicate and read codes on the walls which will allow you to access through doors.

Plunge
The Plunge planet is a underwater planet, and as your character is underwater it will have to swim from one place to another in order to get air to breathe. Your character will adapt to be able to survive in water, however as you upgrade your character it will soon be able to survive underwater for longer. Shops, mission area and help centers are the safe zones for your character to breathe. The mission will include higher level monsters and will all be based underwater, there will be safe zones to gather air for your character as well.
On the planet Plunge, your character will change by being able to adapt underwater, with fins on the face, body and webbed feet/hands in order to be able to swim. You will be able to change the colour of the fin in appearance mode, however you can advance your fins as you level up.

Weapons/Levels
As you progress through the game, you will slowly gain points for your character being alive, socialising and purchasing items. However, your character will level up faster by doing missions and collecting points after defeating a monster, especically higher levelled monsters. As your character levels up, you will unlock more items, clothing, upgrades and weapons which will benefit on how well your character survives.

Monsters
They are different monsters throughout each of the planets and will be based in different environments with different levels.

Why choose this game?
This is different from other games, as most games are based in the modern day society such as GTAV however, this is unique and is a form of excapism as it opens your imagination into something quite different. It attracts a wider audience as it's open to younger children, teenagers and even adults as it's appropriate for all ages, although it depends on is the audience have an interest in role playing games and sandbox games such as this one. It's a relaxing game, with no pressure apart from upgrading your character and have a good fantasy life.

LO4: Game Ideas

Game Idea 1 - Island Adventure
There is plane crash, however you survive and you drift a shore onto a deserted island, your job is to create new ideas to try and get home, the ideas are not restricted so this means anything found on the island you can use.
Game Idea 2
Brief description of the game concept: This is a online multiplayerer game with a variety of 4 planets, you're living in a fantasy world with unrealistic features. You will first create your fantasy character, with basic clothing and will be given basic weapons. On each of the planets there will be a section for your character to walk into to start a mission, to fight off the aliens that are trying to take over that planet. On each of the planets you will have to adapt your character to the new environment. The planets will be underwater, desert, robotic and a planet that overlooks all of the other planets from inside a ship. Each planet will contain different missions and different monsters, through each mission you will gain points, supplies and money, which can be used to buy armour, upgrades and weapons. Gain more points to reach to a higher level and continue advancing your character.
Genre:

Action role-playing
Hardware:
The best possible hardware for this game would be Xbox/PlayStation, as this would be easier for people to access the online gameplay with the membership they will have purchased for their account. It's likely they will have access to a microphone to be able to communicate with online players, to help each other out throughout the game. It would be easier with the gameplay to control using a Xbox controller and a PlayStation controller, than a PC keyboard or iOS/Android.
Target Audience:
The target audience for the age of this game would be PEGI 12, this would be because the game wouldn't involve graphic violence as it would be all fantasy. The gender however wouldn't specify at a particular gender, although males would be more likely to play the game as the genre is action, which contains violence as males stereotypically enjoy more. Furthermore, females can play the game as there will be a gender choice and female options.
Social Grade: ABC1 Competitive games:

LO4: Legal and Ethical

Legal -
This game would be pegi 12 as this game includes violence, however the violence is fantacy, this means that the violence shown wont be graphic. The as this game includes fantasy cartoon characters such as robots and aliens this game wont be using any brands or real people this means that we will not have to gain any copyright permissions.
Ethical –
This game does include Violence and Death, however this is not graphic as this game is fantasy which means it will not go in to detail of the gruesome violence. The violence and deaths will occur in each level as this is part of the narrative which includes battling the enemies to proceed to the next level. Everyone will be represented fairly as both genders will be included in this game and as there will be no difference between the genders about from the way they look. Racism will also not be an issue as there will be various characters in the game from different races.

Sexism/Racism/Agism – how will your game ensure everyone is represented fairly?

LO4: Target Audience

The target audience for this game would be 12 and above as this game is based on fantasy, this means that the only violence used will be non graphic violence. Although the gender isnt aimed at a specific gender, it is more likely that males will play this game as the genre is action which contains violence which males stereotypically enjoy more than females. However females can play this game as there will be a gender choice when choosing characters and there will be a female option(s).

Gary 17, studies media at college as he wants to go in to the media industry or even gaming. Gary spends his free time reading role action comics, watching TV and also loves playing on his Xbox 360 with his friends online and his younger brother and plays many action games such as Lego marvel super heroes and Batman Arkham. However Gary is running low on games to play and would love a new action game to come out that he can play with his brother which is 13.

Th target audience is A (upper middle class) and B (middle class) as the game will be a high price as it will be on Xbox  C1 (Lower middle Class)  and C2 (Skilled Working Class) because the film doesn't have merchandise, this means that the film isn't aimed to families of which has child that would want to own the Titanic merchandise.

LO2: Comparing game reviews

From watching and reading both these reviews I have found that the online review (Which was a video) compared to the magazine review is a lot more informal and personal to the reviewer as in the magazine reviewer the reviews seems to concentrate more on what is in the game and what you can do with it instead of writing their opinion where as on the video review the reviewer is constantly giving there thoughts on each part of the review.

LO1: Genres of game development

Identify 6 genres you would think of devloping a game in
- Adventure
- Role Play
- Driving game
- Action
- Strategy
- Simulation

Find a definition of each along with an example from the industry

Adventure - In adventure games, the emphasis is placed on experiencing a story as seen by one or more user-controlled characters, often by manipulating said character(s) and the environment they exist in. Adventure games are characterized by general lack of reflex-based gameplay (action), though they may feature such segments sporadically.

Role Play - Role-playing video games are descendants of pen-and-paper RPGs. In those games character development is the main driving gameplay mechanic. Typically one or more characters are created and shaped by the player, then embark on a series of encounters that increase the inventory, wealth, or combat statistics of said character(s).

Driving game - This genre encompasses all games in which either driving a vehicle or participating in a race (often both) is a primary gameplay element. Many such games revolve around racing, i.e. trying to move faster than an opponent to reach a specified goal or beat a specified time. Usually racing games use cars and other vehicles (motorcycle, powerboat, etc.), but on-foot racing games also qualify.

Action - In action games players are required to have good reflexes and quick reaction in order to overcome challenges. Action games typically focus on combat, during which the player must press buttons or keys rapidly or in timed intervals in order to execute attacks and other moves. Non-combat challenges may include avoiding traps, jumping, running, completing tasks within a pressing time limit, etc.

Strategy - In its broad sense, the strategy genre encompasses games that emphasize problem-solving. Thinking and planning are necessary components of strategy; they can be used for such diverse purposes as preparing and positioning troops to gain advantage in a war, or figure out the principle of a puzzle. While adventure games may include puzzles, they focus on following a linear story while occasionally dealing with obstacles rather than being entirely dedicated to problem-solving. Puzzle, chess, and card games fall under the strategy category.

Simulation - Simulation games are created with the goal of putting the player in control of a certain activity while attempting to make it as realistic as possible.

LO1: Minecrast Review Practise

Things that stood out to me from the Minecraft game review;

- In the game review I noticed that it included humour, this is to make the audience laugh which makes the game review more interesting.

- The game review also included animation this is so we can watch something as well as listen so we can visualize what is being said.

- Another thing the game review included is a balanced review to the game Minecraft. (A game review should include a positive and negative side of the game)

- There was no real video of the game play of Minecraft

Theme Hospital

 Sims 3

 Flappy Bird

 Flappy Bird

The reviewers overall impression of the game
The reviewers overall impression of the game is a positive repose to the game, he mentions it may be  frustrating and extremely hard to reach a decent score but he mentions that it is worth a try.

The comparison drawn
The reviewer does slightly compare two games which are "Jet pack Joyride" and "flappy bird", the reviewer compares the two games by comparing the aims of the game and the money you spend during the game, the out come of this was that "Jet Pack Joyride" is better than "flappy bird", i know this because in the review he says "Flappy bird is no where near as good as Jet Pack Joy ride." Even though he says this he still balances the negative out with a positive for "Flappy Bird" because he mentions that even though that we cant go on new level on flappy bird unlike "Jet Pack Joy Ride" it is still completely free to play which the other game isnt.

The suggestions made for improvements
The suggests that are made to improve flappy Birds are that there should be levels in the game of which you can move up when you get to a certain score. Another improvement the reviewer gave is that the game is too simple however he does then go on to say that the game is not easy and it is a challenge.

The final score/rating
The reviewer say that he doesn't think that it is a bad game and even though it extremely difficult it is still good to have a go on it as well as the fact its free as well.

The Sims 3

The reviewers overall impression of the game
The reviewers overall impression of the game is good as he enjoys the realistic weathers that are on the game such as puddles on the floor

The comparison drawn
The reviewer compares the Sims 3 seasons game with the original sims 3 and other expansion packs, however these comparisions are quite balanced as he says the good and bad points of each game mentioned.

The suggestions made for improvements
The suggests that are made to improve Sims 3 are that there should be a new town so that your sims can visit it for the different seasons for different activities as this is an expansion pack. Another suggested improvement is that there should be weather disruptions such as car crashes and realistic situations that happen with different weathers in day to day lives. Another improvement the reviewer gave is there should be more choices for outfits rather than just the simple old ones on the original sims 3. The reviewer also suggests that there should be waves in the sea so they can add the activity of "surfing or body boarding" which would make the sea a lot funner to be in. He also mentions that there should be holiday decorations for winter like Christmas stockings or trees.

The final score/rating
The reviewers final rating of this game is that he recommends it to people who enjoy the sims because even though is $40 it is still worth buying. He also says it is his favourite expansion pack next to the expansion pack "late night." He also goes on to say that even though the creators of this game have missed out the obvious things to include with seasons it is not that annoying to dwell on it.

Theme Hospital

The reviewers overall impression of the game
The reviewers overall impression of the game is good as the reviewers says it is a fantastic game, a timeless classic, addictive game and humorous. He also says he recommends it which means that he is pleased with this game and thinks its worth buying.

The comparison drawn
The reviewer compares the game "Theme Hospital" with the game "Sim Health." the reviewer described the game sims health  as "fun as reading over a list of mathematical assumptions (this is a way of saying the game is really boring) Whereas he describes the game Theme hospital as candy coated laughter in a box, this means that he obviously prefers the theme hospital game.

The suggestions made for improvements
The suggests that are made to improve the game are things like allowing the player to put in a room in the hospital to what ever size they want as it is a waste of space when putting a much bigger room than needed in. Another suggestion for improvement is adding an option for allowing the staff in the hospital to have an automatic raise instead of having to do it yourself. The reviewer also suggests that the staff in the building shouldn't be made to be so unprofessional because its unrealistic and annoying when the player has to constantly send the staff member back to their rooms.

The final score/rating
The reviewers final rating of this game is that its a fantastic game that is definably worth buying distpite the reptition of the levels in the game he still finds it extremely addicting.
